Trump Proposes Pay Bonus For Armed Teachers

President Donald Trump doubled down on his proposal that arming teachers might help prevent school shootings on Thursday, adding that people trained to use guns could receive extra pay.

Trump proposed for the second time in the previous two days that a few educators, “sure folks, individuals who understand weaponry” ought to carry firearms.   He added Thursday they may be compensated “just a small bit of a bonus” to do so.

Trump first touched on this idea through a Wednesday listening session with students, families and others affected by gun violence in schools, including many from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 students and staff members were murdered last week.

He suggested arming of teaching staff at colleges 20 percent may be effective at ending strikes.   It’s unclear how much funding would be necessary to train and arm 20 percent of the nation’s instructing employees, or where financing would come out.

On Thursday, he suggested bringing in more security guards in addition to arming teachers.

“You can’security guards that are enough are hired by t. … You need 100, 150 security guards,” he explained.

There’s  hardly any proof that bringing more cops and security guards into campus will prevent school shootings.   There is, however, an abundance of proof  indicating that added college security will funnel more vulnerable students ― black kids specifically ― into the criminal justice system from a young age.
