If you have got abroken leg at a casteveryone clamors to signal it. A dramatic set of stitches and friends and family pour over one to offer their sympathy and have a close look. You come down with the flu and although your boss probably isnt convinced youre really fortunate enough to require a day off work, its clear from the puffy eyes, drawn face and red nose youre not on best form.
However, some suffer with diseases and disorders which arent so visible. Not everybody enjoys or understandsthe struggles and hardship that they face daily.
1 young man lately tired of being judged and seems perfectly able, even though suffering a debilitating condition. 24 year old Ste Walker from Halifax, England, suffers from Crohn’s Disease.
Ste recently vented his frustration on his Facebook page, after people called him out with disabled parking and handicapped toilets.
People are too quick to judge those days, just because I look normal and speak normal, that does not mean I don’t have a significant handicap…to look at me I look like every other normal man my age, but that’s because I would like you to see me like that…look a little closer though, or ask me questions, and you will soon realize that I have a significant illness…

The NHSclarified Crohn’s disease as a long-term condition which causes inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract, where the cause is unknown, but likely attributed to genetics or an inflammatory immune reaction.
Crohns itself can lead to a lot of complications and is still a life-long condition, which could occasionally go into remission of periods of time.
Ste goes on to elaborate that concealed underneath his thin veil of clothes, he constantly wears his Hickman line, which will be a silicone tube inserted beneath the collarbone with two or three lumens attached – those lumens allow medication and nutrients to be administered intravenously at exactly the exact same time (like Stes gut doesnt function properly). He also has an ileostomy, or a stoma bag, which attached to the exterior of his body and funneled to by a part of his small intestine, which does exactly the job of his bowel as he clarifies his is full of chrohns disease, ulcers, strictures, fistulas, narrow segments, tumours etc..
Not only does he also need a Ryhlls tube down his nose to aid with draining his stomach, he also only has 3 foot of large bowel whereas the average man has 5, and 8 foot of small bowel as compared to 20 foot at a mean person because of a collection of major surgeries.
Ste goes on to describe the many complications he suffers because of Crohns
All my drugs are IV and I give them pulled my Hickman line, this means at least I will use drugs to help me cope, but the drawback to this is it has generated among the arteries in my liver to clog up. My kidneys are also not in the best state as I’m dehydrated constantly.
Then there is the conditions that I have obtained because of crohns disease, matters such as osteoarthritis in my knees out of prolonged steroid use, gastro-paresis from not utilizing my stomach at so long, chronic pain syndrome, anxiety from spending all my time at hospital, these are to name but a couple of
He also clarifies that its not only physical problems he claims with on a daily basis.
It is not just these physiological conditions I have to deal with and fight everyday, there is also a mental battle raging within me all the time, not being able to eat a meal in two years, or just been in the home for 4 weeks in the previous 18 months, being away from my loved ones and friends, watching exactly what my illness does to them has a huge effect on my mental state of mind.
Just because you cant, at the very moment seea person’s illness (that is none of the business anyway) doesn’t mean they don’t suffer.
Ste summarises by saying you have no right to judge me just in your perception of me which you can see, since you don’t understand what goes on within…so stop and think before you speak, consider the battle I’ve gone through merely to get out of bed and get dressed and strove to look ‘normal’…
