I Cant Protect My Son From Everything, But If I Lock Him In The Svalbard Global Seed Vault Ive Narrowed The Threat Down To Just Seeds

As a parent, its own obligation to make certain that my son grows up within a secure and healthier environment, although no matter how cautious I am, unpredictable perils will probably always be out there. Ive come to the tricky realization that I cant protect my son out of everything, but when I lock him into the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, then Ive narrowed the threat down to just seeds.

Its illogical to think that Ill be able to shield Ethan from each and every danger that he encounters in life. However, I will shield him behind an airtight door inside the remote Norwegian superstructure that protects seeds from all over the world in case of a international calamity, which might drastically reduce the variety of dangers hed confront on a daily basis. Neither he nor I’d ever need to think about him getting hit by a vehicle or intimidated by a stranger. The only remaining threats would be seed-related, and while potentially dangerous, at least hed understand where theyd be more lurking.

Is it likely that Ethan bumps to a shelf and knocks one of the Svalbard seed storage containers on his head, giving herself a serious concussion? Absolutely. And is there an opportunity hed slide on a rogue seed and fall backward, cracking his head open? Yes, there really is. However, I take great comfort in knowing that Ethan will not be bullied or float in a lake when hes firmly in the vault carved 390 ft into a remote Arctic mountainside. For a parent, thats an extraordinary relief.

Im going to be there to hold Ethans hand through life, but I’ll be there to hand him a plane ticket to the Svalbard Airport. This isnt to say Ill ever stop worrying about his well-being. However, itll give me peace of mind knowing that so long as he doesnt neglect to wear a jacket in one of those sub-zero-degree seed storage rooms and adheres to departure, or accidentally inhale an amaranth seed, then he must be largely otherwise alright.

Ill miss Ethan if hes locked within the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, although Id like to believe that someday, hell remind me for being such a good parent and lifting him . That’s, obviously, assuming no nut mortal seed-related accident takes him outside before he could. However, by teaching my son to be very careful around seeds, then sending him to a place where seeds are the only things which can potentially bring my small man hurt, Ive truly done all I could do as a parent.
