How to Get Rid of Fleas on Newborn Puppies

How to get rid of fleas on newborn puppies is not a complicated task. Newborn dogs require lots of care and love. If these little puppies were brought home right after birth, away from their natural mothers, then they would be highly vulnerable to fleas, especially fleas brought in by carriers. Newborn dogs are quite susceptible to flea infestation because they offer the perfect living conditions for the fleas.

Fleas lay their eggs on their host, or in the host’s fur. These eggs hatch into larvae and then the adult fleas begin to feed off the host. The more fleas you have on your puppy, the higher the chances that they will become infested with canine parasites.

You can try a few different flea control techniques to try to get rid of these parasites from your canine friend. First off, you should do something to keep him warm during the cold months of the year. Warm water and some extra bedding will help your pup a great deal in reducing his exposure to these parasites. You should also take him out frequently to different areas. Doing this would ensure that he’ll be in touch with different people and different surfaces in the house, thereby reducing the chances of the parasites getting onto his fur.

You can try using tweezers to pull the ticks off your puppies coat. But, be very careful doing this so as not to apply too much pressure when removing the ticks from his body. Use a comb to carefully pull the ticks from the fur and place it in a container of warm water or put it in your freezer for future use. Another method to remove fleas from your dog’s coat is to rub a mixture of one cup of alcohol and one quart of warm water on the body and joints of your furry friend.

How to get rid of fleas from your puppy has been made much easier due to the development of commercial flea solutions. These solutions are usually diluted with water before being applied to the puppy’s coat. Just add one ounce of these solutions to each one ounce of fresh puppy’s fur and allow it to sit for fifteen minutes. Once the fifteen minutes are up, wash the solution off the puppy and gently pat his belly to remove the dead fleas from him.

If you do not have the time to do these procedures, you should consider using flea collars on your puppy. Just get a brand new collar and place it on the puppy once his hair is grown. The process of applying the collars to the dog will take only ten to fifteen minutes and will keep the fleas away for an entire summer. This solution works well when there are infestation as well as when the puppy has not been exposed to other animals or humans.

How to get rid of fleas from your newborn puppy can be difficult to do. But there are a few things that you should try to make the process easier. If the puppy was exposed to another animal, try to disinfect the area with a mixture of warm water and bleach. You can also try using a mixture of one part ammonia to five parts warm water and pour this mixture into the pouches that are often used to store the shampoo. After letting the solution sit for fifteen minutes, you can rinse the pouches and your puppy should be free of the fleas once more.

Although some of the methods mentioned above may work, they may not be able to completely remove the parasites from the skin of your puppy. In order for the parasites to be fully killed you will need to use a product called Tricomin which contains an insect toxin. This product can be mixed with the shampoo mentioned above and should be used frequently, until all of the fleas on the puppy have been thoroughly deadened. Once this process has been completed you will not have any re-infestations with fleas on your pet.
