The celebrity flew to California on Sunday to talk to the Bay Area Lyme Foundation LymeAid advantage for study in a private home beyond Palo Alto.
In his speech, the Saturday Night Live veteran talked on his battle with Lyme disease for the first time as a casual remark to the New York Times in 2011.
Baldwin has ever been reluctant to talk about the disorder, and also the foundation’s executive manager Linda Giampa said she’s been trying for him to attend the event for a long time.
“They had me hiding in the bushes over there in a Lyme infection gain. I’ve ticks around me. I am kidding.”
The 59-year-old stated he had a feeling he had chronic Lyme disease before he had been diagnosed. Baldwin was bitten about 17 years back and got a shot. He had been bitten again a few years later.
Moving into detail over the exhausting symptoms, he clarified:
“I obtained the classic Lyme disease (symptoms) to every consecutive summer, for five years, every August, such as this black blossom, flu-like symptoms, sweating to death in my bed. The very first round (was the very worst), then it dropped, at least that’s the way I perceived it.”
Baldwin admitted the worst of it came just after his separation from ex-wife Kim Basinger, continuing:
“The very first time was the worst thing of all. And I truly thought that is it, I am not likely to live. I had been lonely, I was not married at the moment, I had been divorced from my first wife. I had been lying in bed saying, ” I’m going to die of Lyme disease,’ in my bed and that I expect someone finds me and I am not here for long.’ “
Luckily, none of that occurred — but today, he wife Hilaria Baldwin always check their children for signs of tick bites. He added:
“I want my children to grow up riding horses and bicycles and enjoying themselves every day and not need to spend every day together with us moving them with a magnifying glass to be sure they don’t possess any ticks on their body or their own puppies, but that is part of the lifestyle where I live.”
To liven up the somber vibe, ” the celebrity reprised his impersonation of Donald Trump having a joke about New York being a Red State — which delivered groans through the audience.
The actress subsequently reacted to the groan having a scratching quip:
“I’ve got Lyme disease. Just a little sympathy here.”
Although there was plenty of sympathy for go around in the benefit concert and dinner, which raised over $8 million to fund study to get Lyme disease.
