Lift your glasses–Pink has taken the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award in the 2017 MTV VMA awards.
While on stage at the ceremony of this year, everyone’s favorite empowering 37-year-old singer performed a medley of hits spanning her career. She went home with what is the lifetime achievement award for the community, and imparted some words for the audience and fans watching at home.
The award was presented by Ellen Degeneres to Pink, following a last minute request by the singer herself who requested Cher, who was not able to produce the ceremony for unknown motives to be replaced by Degeneres.
“If I could tell you a quick story,” Pink began her acceptance speech, moving into a story about how her daughter grappled with self-esteem.
“‘Momma, I’m the ugliest woman I understand,'” Pink said her daughter exclaimed one day. “I said, huh? She was like, ‘I look like a boy with long hair.’ My mind went to, oh my God you’re six, where is that coming out?” Pink stated.
“I did not say anything. Instead I made her a PowerPoint presentation and went home. In that presentation were androgynous rockstars and artists who live their precision and therefore are likely made fun of everyday of the life and carry on and wave their flag and inspire the rest of us,” Pink continued, naming musicians like Annie Lennox, Prince, George Michael, Elton John, and Michael Jackson.
Pink finished her story that was stirring with a statement. “We do not change–we take the gravel in the shell and make a pearl,” she explained. “We help others to alter to see more types of attractiveness. Thank you for being your true selves and light the way for us,” she continued, imagining the other artists in the award show.
“You my darling woman are amazing and I love you,” she explained on her daughter, that was in the crowd.
The award, which recognizes their songs movies and artists has gone to everyone to Beyoncé in decades.
Leave it to Pink to never fail in getting the party began and which makes you cry just a little bit, even after 17 years in the game.
