Passenger flings powerbank on the floor and it catches fire

1 person’s protest at the airport’s limitation on carrying digital devices onboard led to him ironically demonstrating that the coverage right.

The Istanbul Alatrk Airport said an undercover passenger flung his powerbank on the ground in anger, even after he had been told he couldn’t bring it onboard his trip to the UK.

The man reportedly got into an argument with safety officials at the airport, and also the battery pack ignited after it crashed on the ground, Turkey’s Dogan news agency reported.

The small explosion and resultant fire happened at Gate 710 at the airport, based on Greg Luck, who had been nearby:

Nobody has been hurt in the incident, based on Channel NewsAsia.

Other photos appear to show that the battery pack on flame close to the boarding gate.

The U.S. had on Wednesday lifted a ban for laptops and other large electronic devices on flights out of Dubai and Istanbul, but the same didn’t apply to UK-bound flights.

The ban has been lifted after enhanced safety measures for flights to the U.S. were announced, requiring extra time to screen passengers and individual devices for explosives, reported Reuters.
