Particle — which was called Spark — has introduced the next generation of the tiny, networked computing boards. Their new product, called Mesh, allows you to connect to a Wi-Fi or cellular network but also lets you make a mesh network involving multiple Mesh apparatus. This permits you to create a mesh network very similar to popular IoT apparatus from Nest and Netgear. The system, called Thread, lets you select which system yoursquo;d like to use — Wi-Fi, LTE, as well as Bluetooth Low Energy — then offers programming via OpenThread technology.
There are 3 versions, the Argon, the Boron, and the Xenon. The Boron, $29, supports LTE while the Argon, $15, joins to Wi-Fi and also the $9 Xenon joins only via Bluetooth.
The Particle Mesh basically lets you make large net networks of sensors, letting you join multiple disparate devices together wirelessly in order to collect a wider array of data. You could, as an instance, connect to a pressure sensor to control gas or water valves or put it on a farm to feel soil moisture.
It’s shipping in July and can be obtained for pre-sale now.
