Lyft has hired a brand new C-level executive Jon McNeill, who joins as Chief Operating Officer. McNeill previously held a leading role at Tesla, in which he was president of Global Sales & Service, overseeing all the company’s showroom and customer-facing interactions.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed on the company’s earnings call on Wednesday that McNeill was departing the company, though he didn’t reveal what McNeill’s next move is. Lyft delivered a notice verifying McNeill’s hire soon afterwards, citing his many years of experience in entrepreneurship and transport as chief reasons for his choice to the senior role.
“Jon is a world-class leader that brings deep experience as a highly successful entrepreneur and executive,” Lyft CEO and co-founder Logan Green said in a statement supplied to TechCrunch. “Last year, the Lyft community experienced greater growth than in most previous years combined, increasing rides by 2.3x and increasing market share by over 50%. Jon is the correct leader to build upon this momentum together with his distinctive history of starting businesses from scratch and managing at scale. ”
McNeill clarified in his own statement that his reason for joining must do with the ride-hailing company’s capacity to “ take good care of both customers and drivers,” along with the “enthusiasm of [their] leaders and groups. ”
